Mandrake

Mandrake is a rare nightshade of the south, whose great root is shaped like a man. Healers prize it as a sedative and to dull pain in surgery, but it is dangerous in unskilled hands. It is said to shriek when it is pulled from the ground, and that the shriek kills the one who pulls it. Because it is rare and dear, the root of bryony is often sold in its place. Some whisper that it is sought as a component in workings of magic.
