Ingot
Refined metal in its finished form; dwarves hold a gold ingot to be the perfected final form of the metal.
Dwarven regard
A dwarven ingot is not meant to be broken down and reworked, whether its owner is a traditionalist or a modernist. Transforming it into anything else degrades it, if it does not devalue it. An ingot has a well-defined market value, and its symbolic value exceeds that value. Ingots are nevertheless traded as bullion; the two pools in which a dwarf places them are described under Wealth and Riches.
Bars and pegs
Smaller bars, or pegs, as the terms are interchangeable, are sometimes more suitable for transport and storage, and are categorized the same way as ingots. Bars have social presence, and the same expectation applies to them: they are not melted down or worked, unless it is to become part of a full ingot. A bar has no set weight, but is typically between 20% and 30% of the mass of a true ingot.
